III INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS ON WHITE ARCHITECTURE
White and coloured concretes are achieving a progressive development in contemporary architecture, and they have become an emerging material in the construction of public and private buildings during the past few years.Within this framework, the Cátedra Blanca, by virtue of an agreement between the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia and the cement company CEMEX, aims at an in-depth study and promotion of the use of white cement in architectural projects, the practical training of university students, and the establishment of a forum for the exchange of opinions and knowledge, thus bringing the business world and, more specifically, the cement sector, closer to future architecture professionals. Among its main activities, the Cátedra Blanca Valencia scheduled the 3rd International Conference on White Architecture, CIAB3, held at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia on the 6th , 7th and 8th March 2008.
In this third edition, CIAB exhibited the latest works made in white or coloured concrete as well as works built in rough and pre-formed concrete. The congress also comprised papers of theoretical and historical character, and cutting-edge technologies developed by companies belonging to the concrete sector. In the past conferences, CIAB was attended by more than 1200 people, and it comprised more than 100 papers and the participation of 20 speakers, establishing itself as one of the forums for the exchange of architectural experiences in the field of white and coloured concrete at international level.
The celebration of CIAB also enabled the production of catalogues of white concrete architecture. As a result of the preceding conferences, the publications ENBLANCO, ENBLANCO II and CIAB3 are currently available for sale.
