JOSEP FERRANDO ARCHITECTURE

An architect from Barcelona and director of the Josep Ferrando Architecture studio, in keeping with the ‘polyhedral’ vision of architecture that he defends, he combines practice with academia as Dean of the School of Architecture of La Salle (ETSALS), and in the field of cultural management as Director of the Open Centre for Architecture of Barcelona and of the Department of Culture of the School of Architects of Catalonia, during which time the institution has been awarded the National Culture Award

His work has been exhibited in several countries, and he has held monographic exhibitions of his work at the Biennale di Architettura di Venezia, at the Architekturforum Aedes gallery in Berlin and at the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) in Rio de Janeiro. In 2016 he was part of the “Unfinished” exhibition at the Spanish pavilion of the 15th Venice Architecture Biennale, which was awarded the Golden Lion of the exhibition. He has received international recognition, winning the FAD awards, the XV Spanish Architecture and Urbanism Biennial, the Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial BIABA’15, and he was nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture-Mies van der Rohe Award.

At the same time, he has pursued an intense teaching career since 1998 as a project lecturer at numerous European and American universities. He has also lectured at universities such as GSD Harvard, MIT Massachusetts, Cornell University, Cooper Union and at international conferences such as UIA’11 in Tokyo and BIAU’19 in Asunción.
